We have retired to Telford and are renting in Stirchley. It is fine but next to Brookside, which is a bit run down and possibly a council estate.
We want to buy in a good area as it will be our forever home. We like the town and lived 31 years in new towns elsewhere. It has fantastic shopping facilities easy to get to. Beautiful countryside is on the doorstep. It is well placed for getting around the rest of the UK. House prices, especially in the 240k+ bracket have taken large jumps in the last year or so.
Having asked the locals and driven around, here are some areas we are considering for a 4 bed detached, 250k to 300k. But Google Maps, Google Street View, Zoopla and Rightmove are your friends. Then come and visit.
Stirchley, Priorslee, Shawbirch, Apley, Muxton, Leegomery, Madeley
Newport, Horsehay, Old Lawley village
Avoid anywhere close to the main arteries such as the motorway or dual carriageways because of the noise and the pollution.
The houses are modern, which means they have small rooms, small gardens and are jam packed in. However the town is prosperous and growing with lots of greenery. Peolle look after their owned property and drive better quality cars so cruising round the estates will give you a feel. Do what we are doing, rent for six months so you can decide at leisure.
