My husband and I have been talking about moving to York for ages. I spent half my childhood in Harrogate and my husband is from Newcastle. We've been living in the south for a few years due to my husband's work but he is now able to work from home permanently and we have the opportunity to make the move. I would love to live in such a friendly, vibrant, beautiful city. We have five little boys, two of them in school so I appreciate it may not be easy to get them both into the same (good!) state school.
My question is about the housing in York. We'll be renting and for the last few years we've been renting detached four bedroom houses. Very desirable with all the noise that little boys can generate! From looking at zoopla I can see that most of the houses for rent in York seem to be terraced. We've got a budget of around £1500pcm and like the look of areas like the South Bank and Fulford. What are the terraced houses like, typically? I don't think I could go back to thin walls and hearing every noise the neighbours make. I'm sure they wouldn't want to hear our children either! I know that we could rent somewhere detached outside of the city but there is less choice when it comes to locations with houses to rent and we really want to live in the city and enjoy everything it has to offer.
Any opinions appreciated! Thanks.
