Moving to Exmouth

I'm new to mumsnet but thought it looked a good place to get some advice and hopefully meet some new friends eventually! We hope to move to Exmouth from Bristol this summer, dependant on a job my partner is applying for in Exeter. We've been down to Exmouth many times and love the beach and size of the town so thought it would be a good place to base ourselves initially. I also really like Sidmouth, but its a bit further for him to commute to Exeter (i work from home so can be anywhere). Any opinions on which would be best for a family with young kids? We have an 8 month old son who will be starting nursery soon so also looking for advice on recommended nurseries in either town as I have no idea which are the best? There seem to be a lot of options in Exmouth.. Thanks!

Exmouth has the benefit of the train to Exeter.
Both great places to live, IMO.

Hi Spamelina, Welcome to Mumsnet Devon.

I moved to Exmouth two years ago (wow it's gone quick!) and love it here. It's full of families with young kids - it's convenient for shops and transport (good buses and a train too). There's a very friendly Children's Centre which has loads of activities. Lots of nice parks. But the best bit is the beach. Today I've got to go to the supermarket after my son's nap and we're going to pop to the beach on the way home - feel so lucky I can do that!
The only thing I don't like about it is the volume of tourists in the summer - but that's standard in Devon. And it does at least create a fun atmosphere (although v easy to become a snooty local!). My favourite times are Spring and Autumn when the beach is quieter.
I'm afraid I can't help with nurseries as I use a childminder. But there are lots of good ones in both Exeter and Exmouth. There's a fairly new one called Ottertots on Hulham Road.
Any other qus - just let me know. We've got quite a few East Devon mums on Mumsnet now - so going to try and organise a get together soon x

Thanks so much for the advice ladies, I think that Exmouth is looking like the place we will end up.. we've just got to wait to hear about my partners job next month and hopefully we will be on the move South very soon! I'll keep an eye on this board, as it would be great to meet of with some other mums when we get down there :-)
