Move to Devon

I am seriously considering moving to Devon from West Yorkshire with my 6 year old daughter. I'm a single parent and my DD is dual-heritage, my partner died 3 years ago, and its been tough over the last few years. I love the idea of being near the sea, as we are currently pretty landlocked! However, I am realistic and realise we may have to be more inland, or near a larger town. Any advice would be welcome, regarding areas, and acceptance for a multi-racial family. TIA Helen

Totnes. very inclusive and great fun, we are a short drive from the sea and moors. Devon is still quite white, but changing. all the towns are very different, but Totnes is very alternative and a great many people move here from London, Brighton and other places.

Come and visit I bet you like it.

Sidmouth is a lovely place to be.

We moved here 10 years ago and I must say it was shockingly monocultural back then. In the last ten years there have been big changes I feel, and Devon generally has become a lot more diverse. TBH even though Totnes is lovely, I don't think it really matters where in Devon you live as it's all pretty live and let live. The Torquay/Paignton has a few more social problems than the average, but in the main you should pick a place that's convenient for what you want to do. For example, I wouldn't personally live in North Devon as it's a very long way to a city and the schools are a bit meh.

Sidmouth is indeed a lovely place to live. I live there Grin I live at the top of Sidmouth, it's a nice walk down the byes to the beach, 15mins to honiton, 25mins to exeter :)

Another one that isn't much of a fan of North Devon. Anywhere near Exeter I like. I live in a small town and don't know of any issues
with other backgrounds here :)

can't add to the great advice you've already been given but if you do move down here, stay in touch and come to a meet-up :)
