Attachment Parenting in Leicester?

Hello, I recently moved back to Leic after growing up here. I was hoping someone might be able to let me know of any AP friendly groups/meet ups/babywearers etc... I consider myself AP, and had a bit of a network where I previously lived but can't seem to find anything here in Leic - have checked netmums and APUK + a myriad of fb/social networking sites...

I'd love to make all kinds of mummy friends but thought AP friendly ones would be a good place to start as I bf/co-sleep with my toddler and it can be a challenge meet people that are not too judgey of that.

Hi I'd like to get a meet up going in leicester as I haven't been to any mumsnet ones before. I have a 13 mon old dd who is bf and I know where your coming from about people being judgey. I would be up for a meet up- it would be great if we could get our own little meet up group going :)
I'm near blaby btw

Wishfulmakeupping · 20/03/2014 19:11

You're not your!

lauriebear · 22/03/2014 19:53

Hello Great to hear from you :) That sounds great, I have to admit I'm not massively familiar with baby/toddler friendly places in Leicester, I have heard good things about the John Lewis Café - mostly that you can get free tea and cake once a month with their free loyalty card - www.johnlewis.com/our-services/my-john-lewis and they have nice baby friendly facilities. I think they actually have a bf'ing room with a water dispenser!

Well, I am up for any other suggestions of where - and when - I work from home and can be very flexible, I'm near Oadby btw so sort of the right direction (?!) to you

Hi Yes JL is really good and baby friendly. Is there anyone else in leicester that wants to join us?
Tues are normally a good free day for my and my dd :)

Wishfulmakeupping · 24/03/2014 09:17

Meant to add Laurie not sure how old your baby is but baby sensory in oadby is great.

lauriebear · 25/03/2014 19:19

We live in Great Glen, I keep heading to Market Harborough - had no idea there was stuff on in Oadby for little ones! I always wanted to go to a baby sensory class but was never near enough to one. Should have moved back sooner! Haha.

My DS is 2 - believe me I never dreamed I'd be breastfeeding - still but it's a world apart from bf'ing a newborn or even a 1 year old now, and I think that's why it's hard for some to get their head around. Go you! BTW for making it to a year (I think in some circles they say you have gold boobies if you do that, lol). Have you seen the evolutionary parenting blog? She always posts the latest research on BF'ing past a year and I try to keep up with that now in case anyone ever takes issue with it.

There is a new group in St Martins Tea and Coffee shop on a Monday morning. 10am onwards I think. There were a few baby wearers around at a recent one and it's very bf friendly in there. Nice brownie too. Also have you seen Tots Times magazine? There is a good listings section in there for the city and county. Might be worth a look for some other ideas.

lauriebear · 28/03/2014 22:03

thanks knottslanding that looks lovely! I will def pop in I haven't seen tots times anywhere yet - shall have a quick google...

Hi, If you are on facebook there are several groups you might be interested in. Leicester Natural Mummies, they have regular meet ups too and Leicester Sling Meet. I also run ToddlerCalm courses which are gentle parenting techniques to help with toddler tantrums, sleep and eating and other toddler issues. The course is about toddler brain development and your long term goals. My facebook page is BabyCalm & ToddlerCalm Leicestershire. p.s. I didn't know about the free cake and coffee at JL

Cafe Mama is located at the Unitarian Church Hall, East Bond Street - Leicester City Centre.

Lovely bunch of ladies. Google them for a phone number. The seem to largely practice AP.

MH has some nice groups on I think. There is also a few toddler sessions at mini mischief's near the train station.

StrawberriesInTheSun · 10/06/2014 20:15

This should be the kind of group you want:

Hi Cafe Mama is open every Wednesday 10-12 and you can get a cuppa and snack for a donation. They offer bf info and support or just to meet other bf mums for a chat. I sometimes help as I am a La Leche League Leader. NCT bumps and babies meet up at mini mishiefs 1st and 3rd fri. I'm also an NCT ant teacher, Smile. I also home educate my children aged 6-15 so if you want any info local groups , camps etc let me know.

Hi ladies, I'm a little late joining the conversation but the thread caught my eye.
I live near Blaby in Leicester and practice natural parenting methods such as BF and AP amongst other things. I don't meet many or any other mothers sharing the same parenting interests as me and because of this, I find that i don't really go out much!

I'd really like to change that.

It would be great to meet up with some like minded mums in or near my area.

nicolaarnett · 21/08/2014 17:36

Hi Carly,
Join Leicester Natural Mummies on facebook its a fab group and they regularly meet up.x

lauriebear · 02/09/2014 09:57

I've been away a lot of the summer and didn't realise there were so many responses - thank you everyone that posted - I've just requested to joing the natural mums group on FB. My DC is 2 nearly 3 and I am expecting DC2 in January, if anyone fancies just meeting up for a cuppa please PM me :)
