Nice villages near Bedford?

Hi, we're relocating back to England from the US (yey!), and possibly looking to buy a house in one of the villages within a 15 min drive from Bedford station. Which villages are nice eg non chavvy, safe and with a good community?

Also, if you know anything about house prices in this area any info would be great! We're looking to buy a 3+ bedroom detached house, max £330,000 but a lot of the houses I like are around £350,000. Do you think there's much room for negotiation eg are people still being a bit optimistic with what they want for their houses or is the market picking up?

I'm from over Milton Keynes way, so the only place I can think of is Stewartby, off the A421. It's probably 15-20 minutes from Bedford but it has it's own station with links to both Bedford and Milton Keynes.

My dad is house hunting at the moment. From what I can tell, prices are going up but people are open to offers.
