Does anyone work at the University of Cambridge

Hi, I'm starting a new job at the university next month. Just wondered if anyone could tell me what it's like. I'm going to be commuting from Bishops Stortford, any tips on how early I need to be to avoid the traffic? Does anyone use the park and cycle and/or the university holiday play schemes? Thanks x

could you get the train traffic is pretty bad, but lots of people park and cycle as well -I knew someone who worked at the other unviersity and came in from south of cambridge and did that. I know people who have used the play scheme and thought they were ok

It depends what job you're doing-some you work longer hours than you expected as the pressure to do what's needed is intense and others you can knock off at 4 either one determines your commute. Get in for 8 and you'll miss must of the bad traffic crawls Have you got a parking permit-you should be given one as you live far enough away. Avoid Trumpington Road. Take the M11 and come off at Grantchester. Good luck in your new job! One tip- be firm in sticking to your childcare schedule or other wise you'll get pushed to work to suit others timetables.

Thanks both for your messages. I was hoping to use the park and cycle near j13 of the M11, or else park on the street near Wilberforce Rd. Train isn't really possible as I'm too far from the station at both ends. I was planning to get in for 8, and it's a part time job so I should be leaving Cambridge by 3, hopefully avoiding the evening rush.

It's an academic-related job, but really interesting to hear Coco that there might be pressure to put in additional hours.

Hopefully I can make it all work, it's a good opportunity
