The hubby and I are looking to move to either rhiwbina or penarth. We want to start a family soon so which in your opinion would be the best place to raise a child?

I don't know Rhiwbina but I grew up in Penarth and would highly recommend. The best things about it are its sense of community, it is very safe, and children can have quite a bit of independence at a young age. It was brilliant having all my school friends within walking distance (unlike friends in Cardiff who were much more spread out). Bus and train links to Cardiff city centre are excellent -12 min on the train, and it goes every 15 min. That was great when I was a teenager wanting a bit more excitement than a small town affords. There are loads of cafes, excellent high quality charity shops, and activities for kids and families. Also lots of green space and the promenade and pier. Everything is in easy distance. The schools have a good reputation too. I'm sure there's as much going for Rhiwbina, I just don't know it. Do you have the opportunity to visit either?

I was brought up in Rhiwbina and it's a lovely area (along with the rest of North Cardiff) plus if you ever need a Childminder for when you do start a family and perhaps return to work, then look no further as i'm near Rhiwbina. The village has some lovely little shops and its always nice at Christmas time where there are village events. There is a park and big fields near the village, plus a library. 1 bus into Cardiff town centre, which takes about 10 - 15 minutes. Rhiwbina has some good pubs, a good school, and a good indian takeaway and restaurant! Also a new charity shop there.Hope all that helps you make up your mind!

Hello! I can see you commented not too long ago. We live in he Vale but have been looking at moving to the area. Do you know much about Cogan in terms of safety and community etc. We have seen a few houses around Redlands Road and Cowslip drive. We want to move to a quiet area but certain areas of Penarth are currently out of our budget.
Any advice appreciated x
