Fawcett or Trumpington Meadows PS? Advice on Nurseries

FidoDido75 · 27/12/2013 18:21

We'll be moving to Trumpington (Novo the new establishment by Countryside) by mid April. My DS (4) is due to start primary school in september and my DD (2) will need full time childcare as we are working both full time. We will be in the catchment area of Fawcett but Trumpington Meadows is much closer to us. Any advise on which one to choose?
And any advise regarding the nurseries? When I checked Ofsted, the ratings of the nearest ones (kidsunlimited in long road and addenbrooke) are mostly 3 which is not very promising. Anyone with a first hand experience? DP will be using the P&R to the station to get to London and I will be commuting to Peterborough right off M11. So, we need to minimise the time for school runs.
Thank you for all of your replies in advance.

I have never been impressed with kidsumlimited ... I think Rainbow nursery in grantchester is supposed to be good. We have used baby unicorns which is in town and the phoenix school in willingham.

Rainbow is good but they can't offer any fulltime places.

You might have an issue with primary schools, the application closing date is 15 January, and I don't think you will be able to apply for the new address as you aren't living there, but it may well be worth ringing the admissions team. Admissions are run by Cambridgeshire County Council so it might be worth ringing them for advice.

We've already bought the house but we will be moving there by mid April. Isn't that enough to be able to apply? But thank you for the advice, i'll check with them.

Fido- if you have completed I think you could do an application right now otherwise it will be a late application which is going to be tricky but check with admission - you will also need quite long wrap around care at school for those commutes if standard hours

We're at the Abode so we'll be practically neighbours :).
No experience of schools as dd is at Queen Edith which was in our previous catchment area, but ds goes to JCN nursery which we're really happy with. It's a pain because you'd need yo drive into town but sadly there aren't many options around us....

I've just moved to Novo OP, do PM me if you want any info on the development or the area or a coffee when you move in! Great that there are nearby MNers!

Hello we are in the Trumpington Meadows area. Just curious what you decided. It looks like Trumpington Meadows is not oversubscribed in fact undersubscribed. I am curious if anyone has children at the school?

Hiya, we finally moved in last week. We decided to go with Trumpington Meadows PS and my son was offered a place last week. We could not find any places in any of the nearby nurseries (tried rainbow, long road kids unlimited and Fawcett and TMPS nursery) and ended up having a nanny. It's been only a week so far but they seem to be really enjoying. I would like to meet at the weekend as we do not know many people around.

Hello both of you. It is always hard to move to new location. We are in the Trumpington Meadows - Barratt Homesf area. Our daughter moves on the 30th to Trumpington Meadows PS. And we will have a nanny starting Sept. Just worried we have done the right decision
