Can anyone recommend a good gym class in the Merton/Wimbledon area for young children (4+)? Not soft play: proper gymnastics. Thanks.

I will try to find out for you - have a friend whose older daughter (now nearly 20) and younger one (nearly five) have gone religiously. I know other friends whose children's went to lessons at Tooting Leisure Centre and recommended it but that was some years ago....

Thank you!!

We are thinking of joining one at David Lloyd's in Raynes park. They do 3 a week I believe.

Oooh that's just down the road from us - had totally forgotten about there!

There used to be a popular one in Kohat Rd, just off Haydons ( nr the train station).

I'm looking too, for my 4yo and 6yo. We are in the South Wimbledon area.
British Gymnastics has a page where you can 'find a club' which has a list of all the local clubs.

I tried phoning the one on Haydon's Rd before Christmas, but no answer. Their after-school hours are a bit tricky - 3.45pm start, when my DC's finish school at 3.30, and we would have to walk there, get changed etc.

HaydonWomble · 03/01/2014 08:40

Have you managed to get in touch with the Haydon's Road gymnastics club, Makedoandmend1? If it's at the community centre you might find that the office isn't 'manned' daily....

OffallyGOod · 03/01/2014 09:33

Makedoandmend1. That's is what we found, many of them start close to school finishing time which isn't good for us either. Takes us at least 20 mins to get home from school.
My friend uses one at King college on Saturday mornings .

Hi Orangetickle

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you but I had to wait until term-start to see my friend whose DDs have done gymnastics. She recommends:

Mayfield Gymnastics in Tooting (near Springfield Hospital site)
www.mayfieldgymnastics.com/

and

Avondale Gymnastics Club in Surbiton/Tolworth
www.avondalegymnastics.co.uk/

Hope that helps!

We went for trial gym lesson at David Lloyd's today. It will be a gentle intro for my 4 year ok'd but to basic and slip moving for my 7 year old. Will need to look elsewhereas well.

OffallyGOod · 10/01/2014 01:55

Slow moving not slip moving

I have three daughters who have tried tolworth, Sutton and tooting;

Tooting gymnastics
Tooting leisure centre, non competitive club really nice friendly environment, with opportunities to become a coach. My daughter has stayed here 10 years.

Sutton gymnastics

My daughter and niece went here, really nice competitive club, just tricky for my daughter to get to after school.

not tried.

Tolworth
www.tolworthgymclub.co.uk/
Good competitive club, again tricky to get to after school.

Mspotter, Thanks - knew you'd know! Although Tooting Leisure Centre is technically outside Merton, it's so close I will list it - would you very kindly review it here: local.mumsnet.com/merton/classes.
