Mother Goose Pantomime Lythan- Brilliant!

I took my ten-year old daughter to see 'Mother Goose' at the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham on Sunday, and we had one of our best ever experiences of enjoying a pantomime. All the actors were fantastic and the whole show was filled with energy and enthusiasm. Sally Naden from BBC Radio Lancashire was convincingly dramatic as the bad fairy, 'Fairy Vanity', and 'Billy', the classic Buttons comedy part, really engaged the audience and had all the children shouting and joining in, especially when he seemed to fall over the stage at one point. The real star, however, (apart from the enormous goose) was Mother Goose herself, who, in the classic pantomime Dame mould, seemed to be loving every minute. My daughter loved the fact that most of the songs were familiar pop songs, and when Mother Goose performed her showstopping version of 'Walks like Rihanna' she was so excited and joined in with every word, as Mother Goose took her dancing out into the audience. The 'Baddy', Squire McNasty, was convincingly unpleasant, but not in a way which would utterly terrify little ones in the audience. The 'Magic Waterfall' held the story together, and the lighting, music and general production was excellent. It was very much a traditional pantomime (and included the 'ghost in the forest' routine which I always love , with well-planned dance and music scenes. I particualrly liked the fact that there weren't current-affars type jokes, or celebrity references, as in some pantomimes, which would have gone over the children's heads, and the Dame managed to be slightly suggestive without causing offence to anyone. The tickets, at £12 for adults, are great value, and in such a friendly venue as the Lowther Pavilion, this was a brilliant afternoon out. Highly recommended!!!!
