Street Lighting across Essex

Parts of the A13 and A127 will no longer be lit at night between 12.00 - 5.00am as of today. This is part of Essex County Councils drive to reduce costs and their carbon emissions by turning of streetlights across the county by Feb 2014.

What are your thoughts, good idea or bad?

I think it's a good idea. Less energy waste and less light pollution.

It must have cost loads.
All the roads by me were dug up to have cables put in. Now the roads need to be resurfaced.
Our side streets are pitch black at night. Not safe for walking home IMO.

I am with SwiftSwift. My family are looking forward to less light pollution when they finally do this.
