Where can I donate used toys in York?

My children have outgrown a bunch of their toys and games. Some of them aren't really good enough to be sold in a charity shop as we don't have the packaging etc, but I imagine could be really useful at local playgroups, women's shelters, hospitals etc. I am ideally looking for somewhere that my children can take the toys themselves so that they can see that not all kids have as much as they do.

Any ideas of places that would take toys/games?

Most places that accept toys/games do want them to be in great condition - if they aren't good enough for a charity shop....

Ring around a few playgroups, or ring the Children's Centres for details of these. Ask them.

IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) work with victims of domestic abuse and run a refuge for women in York and do accept clothes, baby items etc. But you wouldn't be able to take them there yourself.

Ward 17 and 18 are for children in the hospital, again, give them a call and ask.

I'm sure you mean well, but it does seem a little crass to want to take your children to see the kids that don't have much. They're just kids! And there are ways of helping your kids understand their fortunes that don't humiliate others, which that would.

I don't think you need packaging to sell in charity shops? I've hardly ever seen stuff in its packaging. Unless its actually broken?

If it's broken or tatty I'd bin it tbh, can't see that anyone would want something not good enough for charity.

I don't think you should take your children to 'see' unfortunate children tbh, children in hospitals aren't there to be gawped at, and you wouldn't be allowed to go to a shelter either.
