Looking for feedback on the Leith Links area. We viewed a flat we liked last weekend, but am slightly worried about potential antisocial behaviour in the area. Is it a good place for a family? What is Hermitage Park primary like ? Thanks in advance for input

Hi, I live just round the corner from Hermitage Park PS in one of the colony type houses. I love the area, it's quiet, lots of young families, the only downside is on street parking (or lack of it), but we always get parked somewhere in our street.

Never experienced / seen any antisocial around our neighbourhood so wouldn't worry about that.

There are lots of great things about living at Leith Links. It's great being within walking distance of some fabby bars & restaurants down the Shore, and Ocean Terminal is a great shopping centre / cinema with lots of free parking. The links itself has a good park for kids, is great for walking dogs & the council have recently built 3 tennis courts on the links.

On the negative side, you'll see some very colourful characters hanging around the Kirkgate / Foot of the Walk, but thankfully they keep to themselves and generally don't bother anyone.

Re schools, my DD is at St Mary's (on the Links). It's a great wee school but not the easiest to get into unless your kids are baptised catholic or they already have sibblings at the school. I know a few mums whos kids are at Hermitage Park and again it seems to be a good school. However, from what I'm hearing, the most improved school in the area is Leith Primary. They do have a very good head teacher. They have a high % of kids whose first language isn't English / parent(s) on benefits / have addictions, but the school gets lots of funding and and it appears a well run happy school, and is attracting more and more kids each new intake. So, there are 3 good primary schools to choose from.

I wouldn't live anywhere else but Leith Links Xmas Smile.

Hi, I'd second all of that. For us (DS, 3 and 2nd on the way) its the perfect spot, close to the Shore area, 10 mins from the city centre and with the Links at the end of the road.

We're on Restalrig Rd- just bought a house to renovate on the same street and the worst thing I could probably rage about is dog poo on the pavement, but that's hardly unique to here! Parking is fine for us.

And as BridgetJonesPants says, a choice of 3 good schools (we're aiming for St Marys). Good luck - we could even start our own mini Links quiche!
