New secondary school

Does anyone know if Merton Council plan on a new secondary school in the borough? With all the expansion of primary schools I just wonder where they will go to secondary school.
I heard that a secondary school is needed in the Colliers Wood area and a site had been found.
This would be amazing if this true.

It would be bloody fantastic if that does turn out to be the case! It would certainly help us for DD - I really don't want her going to a Mitcham school and fear that we won't stand a chance of getting her into Ricard's Lodge come the year of CAF submission....which is a few years off..

I wonder where though.....?

I've heard that they are concentrating on filling the existing capacity in Merton schools first (probably because a lot of Merton children go to secondaries in neighbouring Wandsworth, Sutton, Lambeth and Kingston) so the likelihood is that our DCs will end up at schools we wouldn't have chosen for their older (pre-baby-boom) siblings Hmm.

I think that is certainly the case for the first pupil flood for 2015 start. From 2015-2020 they will be filling all places plus the additional spaces created at Harris x2 and St Mark's. After that a new school will be required.
It's getting a crowded world out there.

By the time they decide to build new secondary schools the birth-rate will probably dip leaving the borough with too many.

I still can't even begin to imagine where Merton Council could build a new school in the South Wimbledon/Colliers Wood area? Something would have to be demolished! Unless they have it in the Colliers Wood Tower Xmas Grin!

Or Marks and Spencers who won't be renewing their rental contract; apparently.

Wow - is that true? When is the M&S rental contract due to come to an end? Doesn't surprise me though...it's a ghost town in there much of the time....

Not sure. 2020? 2018?
Who knows their fortunes may reverse.
Wouldn't have wanted to be the person who signed that off.

Apparently 35% of secondary-school age pupils from Merton go to school out-of-borough so I think Merton Council may be deluded in thinking that they will fill all the available secondary school places..it will take some culture shift from parents.....

Still thinking about a possible site for a Colliers Wood secondary school.....unless they use some of the land from the High Path estate as they rebuild????
