Renfrewshire Roll-call.

I thought it might be a good idea to find out how many Renfrewshire Mumsnetters we have - I know of a few, from the meet-up group, but there must be more of us Out There!

I am responsible for organising meet ups for the Renfrewshire MNers, and I am planning to organise another one in the New Year - probably at the soft-play at Xscape - Braehead is well served by buses, and soft play would make life easier for anyone who wants to bring small children with them.

So - if you are out there in Renfrewshire, and want to add yourself to this thread, it would be lovely to know you.

To start things off - I am SDTG, I live near Paisley (we moved up from the south of England over 5 years ago), and I am married with three dses - two are away at university, and the third is just starting his Highers, in S5.

Hello,

Sally here. Very new to the area as we moved in August from Australia with my Scottish born husband (originally from Aberdeen) where we had been living for 5 years and where our son was born (now 5.5 years old) but I am originally from Cape Town South Africa.

So this was my first Xmas with the MIL...I think I will survive it. :)

I'm starting some kids art activity classes in the New Year which are listed over in the Arts & Craft classes section for preschoolers.

Currently renting in Beith so just on the border of a Renfrewshire but looking to move next year. Any tips welcome!

Houston and Bridge of Weir are nice - you are within easy reach of Glasgow (with a direct bus service) and an easy drive from the countryside and the coast too. The schools, both primary and secondary, are very good (all three of mine went to Gryffe High school, and I couldn't be happier).

Lochwinnoch, Kilmacolm and Kilbarchen are beautiful villages, in lovely areas, with great community spirit. I don't know much about the primary schools, but I think the state secondary schools that these villages are in catchment for, are not as good as Gryffe. There is, however, a very good private school in Kilmacolm - St Columbas - which has an excellent reputation. Plus there are a number of good private secondaries in Glasgow itself.

I would be more than happy to meet up with you sometime, for a coffee and a blether about the neighbourhood - we moved up here from the south east of England, so I know what it is like to be a foreigner in Scotland! Xmas WinkXmas Grin

We are very happy here, and see no reason why we won't be here for years to come.

Thanks for the tips. Gryffe was already on my radar. Just not much property there (in our budget!) at the moment so will have to keep watch.

My son is happy at the little school he's at but when we move again we will have to buy in a decent High School catchment as I can't face moving again. Ever! I think private schools are very much off the radar, as we can't afford any of them!

Would be great to catch up. Maybe once I have the beginning of the year under way.

I haven't felt very foreign as everyone has been so lovely and welcoming. I very much felt the sting of being a foreigner in Australia, so this has been a walk in the park!

I just LOVE it here, I really do, so the next step will be to find a home we can call our own...and start the mortgage all over again. Yay! :)

hi sally, my sons at st andrews in paisley, it is a huge school and very mixed but he loves it and is doing very well, house prices round here a lot more reasonable than further out. i have lived in paisley for 12 years now and i love it!!

OK - I am organising another meet up, in collaboration with the local ambassadors from south Glasgow and Ayrshire - the details are here.

As I said on that thread, I am sorry that it is not a toddler-friendly meet up this time, but the next one will be, I promise.

Hello Rainbow - and welcome to the Renfrewshire group!

We have reasonably regular meet-ups - usually we join up with the Glasgow MN Woolly Hugs people, and the South Glasgow MNers - that way we get a bigger group (my smallest meet up was just me, in Costa at Braehead Grin).

I am considering organising a meet up at a soft-play place - for those who have smaller children who wouldn't be so happy at a cafe.

Hi folks... I keep forgetting this page is here! Argh! SDT, Granny is definitely my favourite character overall, but I love Rincewind and Vimes too. Don't think there's a Discworld book I don't like tbh! I will have a look at Paisley meetups!
