Moving to Leeds

Would love your insights on areas to live.

My partner will be commuting by car to Howden, east of Leeds. Our oldest is in secondary school and our youngest is seven months old.

So far we've been looking (online) at headingley and chapel allerton. We'd like somewhere with a park close by, and a reasonably nice high street or centre, near to schools, and reasonable access out of Leeds for my partner's trip to work. Preferably more families than students. Other than the drive to work we don't want to be too reliant on the car.

If you live in headingley or chapel allerton, or any other area that fits the bill, I'd love to hear which parts of it you'd recommend or would avoid.

Really looking forward to the move!

Chapel Allerton sounds as though it would suit your needs or perhaps Moortown. There is also Roundhay. All near parks and have a nice small high street. Family areas. Headingley is great and lively but is over run by students. You could try Far Headingley but traffic on Otley Road is terrible in rush hour. Carr Manor Primary is a fantastic School and their are plenty of other good schools in both Chapel Allerton and Moortown. Can speak really for High Schools as we're not at that stage yet. But I hear Carr Manor needs improving and most children try and go to Allerton High. Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me.

Chapel Allerton is great but has a pretty poor primary- unless you go to church and get into the Church school St Matthews. Problem is with Chapel A you secondary is Allerton grange- not as good as allerton high or Roundhay but then the house prices reflect this and are not nearly as expensive as moortown or roundhay. I love this area of Leeds loads of local shops, bars and parks but it is the most expensive! Horsforth I think has better schools and is similar but the commute will be longer! Good luck
