Moving to Barnet in Spring 2014 - Schools advice please

My family are moving from Greenwich to Barnet (Southgate) next year and I would value any advice about getting my 5 year old into a Barnet /Enfield primary school mid year. We already know where we will be living but we have not yet put our names on the bills or on the Council Tax although we could potentially do this while still living in Greenwich (property belongs to FIL)

Has anyone been through this procedure and is there anything I can do to get on a school waiting list before the move happens? Also what are the Barnet admissions team like and how long does the schools allocation procedure take on average?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help - I've just given up a great deferred primary school place I had secure in Greenwich and I feel a bit nervous about going into the unknown!

Good luck with the move! Are you sure your new property is in Barnet? Most of Southgate is in Enfield borough I think. In my experience (9 years since I last did primary admissions but have just done secondary school application) Barnet school admissions team are fairly helpful; they do get back to emails even if it takes a while! Everything is online and is clearly explained. There have certainly been kids moving mid-year into my children's school every year so they should be used to dealing with it. Hope it all goes well for you.
