I was left shaken by a terrifying incident this afternoon (at 4.45 pm) whilst driving down Cromwell Road in Teddington, just past the back entrance to Collis Primary School, with my 6y/o DD in the car. A TNT Express Lorry sped straight at us along a narrow stretch near a line of parked cars with nowhere for me to pull in to. I put on my brakes and sounded my horn at him to stop and he screeched within a hair's breadth of my wing mirror and started shouting with extreme aggression that I should have pulled over for him (since I was already driving past the line of parked cars with no available spaces to let him go first this would have been impossible) and derisively mimicked me honking my horn at him in fear.
I pointed out to him that he worked for a reputable company and he should not behave or drive like this in particular with my daughter next to me. He then made a sarcastic remark and sped off at great speed around the bend in Station Road. I drive these roads every day and am always the first to give way when it comes to letting cars/ delivery trucks pass but in this case I'd committed to passing and the oncoming vehicle was far off, so I didn't imagine this astonishing incident would take place.
I was not quick enough to get a shot of his number plate from my phone but have a photo of it in the distance, which is not much use. I do have a description of what he looks like. I was reduced to tears in front of my daughter out of frustration that I couldn't get his number plate to identify him. I have, of course, complained to Customer Services at TNT Express about his bullying and intimidating driving/behaviour and am awaiting a response. I'm curious to know if any other people have experienced similar incidents locally, because he shouted that he was in Teddington all the time. I am really concerned that this person might be doing this on a regular basis.
