Hi, DH and I are looking for ideas of places to move to. We love brighton but know it's very expensive and competitive for jobs. We are looking further along the coast at Rye. I've only visited on holiday, can anyone tell me what it's like to live there? Is it family friendly? What's are the schools like? Is there much going on with small kids? TIA

Hi, I grew up in a village near Rye and went to school there.
The town itself is not very child-friendly (no baby changing facilities that I know of, very narrow pavements or cobbles not good for pushchairs etc) but it is a lovely town with grocers, butchers, chemist, library and thriving arts scene.
There are several toddler groups and Rye Playgroup on Ferry Rd may be worth looking out.
The two primary schools were recently amalgamated and have a new building on a site next to the College. It had a Good Ofsted report in Dec 2011 www.ryeprimary.e-sussex.sch.uk/

There is a nice playpark on The Salts, and you are near beaches at Winchelsea Beach (shingle) and Camber (sand).
Some great restaurants and cafes in the town as well as boutique-y shops.
