Dear all,

We are moving to Eastbourne soon and would like to know more about primary schools and nearby places to live.
I heard Old Town and Meads town are good... and to avoid Shinewaters, Langney and other areas.

How are schools? I heard St john's at Meads is good, but does one have to be a Christian to get admission in this school? Do they teach Christianity?

How are Oakwood academy and Haven?

Hi there, we currently live in Eastbourne (although relocating for work in the new year).

We live in meads, lovely part of Eastbourne, as is effectively a village by the sea (apparently one of 3 in the country?!), and old town is great too. There are also some nice places in langney, but would avoid hampden park.

Schools - st johns is prob. the best primary, but you need a full church attendance record! Saying that the community is tight-nit, and I think the mums there do lots together. I don't think the teaching is very "churchy" though. Some background, the head from st johns (who turned it into an outstanding school), recently moved to shinewater.

Also look at the new free school - gildredge house, which people have said is impressive.

I moved to Seaside three years ago and my children go to Roselands which is an excellent infant school. Seaside is often overlooked but it's very up and coming. There is 100,000 to be spent here every year for 10 yrs in lottery funding, and lots if community projects are happening to improve the area. I love it as we are so close to town and the sea
