Hello Glasgow mumsnetters. I have just moved to Pollockshields from Paisley and have to register my son for Primary in November. We live Pollockshields, catchment Pollockshields/Shawlands. Really would like to hear from parents of kids in Shawlands Primary, Langside, Gaelic school, any others with any thoughts on strengths/weaknesses of schools/teachers? Thank you. ??

Have they brought the registration time forward? When I registered ds admittedly a long time ago as he is now in S2 I'm sure it was in January.

Glendale and Shawlands Primary both have good reputations. Ds is not impressed with the level that the kids from Cuthbertson have arrived at Shawlands Academy with. I have also not got good vibes about the school. I know that Glendale deals with the multiple languages much better (it's an exemplar of best practice in the UK)

We were extremely happy with Glendale but unless you're in its catchment it's highly unlikely you'll get in. But be aware - its catchment is a bit weird. There is a strange dog's leg, so that although Pollokshields Primary is actually closer, we were in the catchment for Glendale.

Glendale feeds Bellahouston Academy but placing requests to Shawlands Academy are always? generally successful.

The new Gaelic medium primary school is supposed to be built as an annexe to /part of the campus of the new Glendale Primary. I'm not so much in touch with what is happening there now as ds is no longer there.

Good luck.

Just came across this, sorry for delay.

My children all go to Sgoil Ghaidhlig Glaschu, are currently in p6, p7 and s2. They'll all finish out school at the west end campus, but anyone in p5 or below on the Southside will be going to Hlendale.

The school is brilliant. Great resources, I've got bilingual children (!!!), teaching staff are on the whole good. There's a bit of an "in crowd" who speak Gaelic already but it's not a big deal - ds's best friend comes from a Gaelic home and there's no bother. One of my dd1's best friends mother is a TA in the primary.

I'd highly recommend it. But it's very oversubscribed so if you don't have a Gaelic connection (area, parents, Gaelic nursery) then there's a chance you wouldn't get in. 99 children went into p1 this year!! (4 classes).

If you want to know anything else, please ask. My dc are getting a great education there, I'm delighted with it!
