Horse riding lessons?

Any pointers out there to decent places where my 9-year old could learn to ride? We don't have a horse, but she is desperate and I though we could get her some lessons as a reward for having worked really hard at school recently.

But I am completely new to this whole thing, so if anyone is doing this I would love some input.

My 8 year old wants to learn too - watching for replies with interest!

There is a play out by Bonnyrigg but I can't remember what it is called. My niece used to ride there.

Not a big fan of Tower Farm as a livery, but it really isn't bad (or wasn't a few years ago) to get lessons. Ponies are reasonably looked after (for a riding school).

Whiteloch (near Macmerry) I've never been to, but heard rave reviews about their care of the horses. I used to see them out on hacks when I was riding, everyone seemed safe and under control, but they would have a good fly along the old railway paths too. No knowledge of lessons there though.

Avoid Edinburgh and Lasswade.

Thank you very much for this; very helpful.

By Edinburgh, do you mean Edinburgh Equestrian?

My research so far has given me good press for Vogrie and Appin,as well as Whiteloch. StiffGandT, maybe this is helpful? I will probably give one of these a go, and will post back here on how it is. But will probably only be in the new year.

Thanks Piña, I will look into these as well. Will post later this year - daughter is desperate!

Sorry. "Edinburgh and Lasswade" is the name of one school. Actually where I learnt to ride, but that was eons ago and someone else owns it now.
