Hi

Hubby has possibly new job in leeds city centre. He will commute from the Midlands for first few months then we will move to leeds with our 2 children- currently 2yrs and 7months.

We are looking for some were north so possibly Adel, Alwoodly area. Hubby doesn't mind commuting by train. Ideally looking for somewhere with good schools, nice community feel, emmerdale looking with good views, good parks.

Does anyone have any recommendations on areas to look at? We are heading up this Friday x

Hi, can't give any proper local advice as in the same boat as you, dh has possible job in Leeds so we're looking to relocate from London. But thought we might be able to share ideas till some proper experts come along! Dunno if you've found this already - it's the Northern Rail area map so handy if he's thinking of commuting by train: www.northernrail.org/pdfs/network_map/nr_network-map-may2013.pdf

We're planning to look at areas on the Ilkley line, the Leeds end of the Harrogate line, Shipley, Saltaire and Otley, which isn't on the train line but is pretty close to Menston station I think. They're nice areas apparently and the schools look good but we really need to get up and have a look!

Good luck on Fri - quite scary moving to an area you don't know isn't it?!

x

I'm from next Adel originally but live down south now. Adel, Alwoodly, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Cookridge and Horsforth all nice North Leeds areas. If I could move back I would choose Horsforth I think as it has a nice little centre with shops and a great park, Hall Park, & a nice feel to the area. There's also a train station in Horsforth to take you into city centre or you can get the bus in about 20 / 25 mins. Adel is the priciest but the primary school is excellent. Hope that helps. Happy to answer any other questions if you have any.

Thanks pudseypie will have a look at Horsforth, sounds like a good option. Also do either of you know anything about the commute into central Leeds from Adel? Just had a quick google and it looks lovely, is pricey tho. Also wondering what the commute is like from Otley and Boston Spa areas, will make another thread cos don't want to hijack Mommachadry's completely Smile

There's a bus from Adel goes around every 15 mins or 20 mons I think. Takes about 25 mins in rush hour altho a long time since I last used it. It's not far to drive into city centre but parking isn't cheap. Not sure about Otley or Boston Spa. Otley can be a bit old. Sorry if I've just offended someone!

hey there Iparhan.
we relocated from London a year ago to Ilkley and it's great for children. Know Shipley and Saltaire quite well too as I'm originally from the area. Horsforth is popular and I have friends in Otley which is a great little town. let me know if you have any questions!

Hi
We moved up from London 8 years ago and love it! We bought a house on the Headingley/meanwood border which is still reasonably priced, close to some lovely shops, bars and restaurants and only 2 miles from the city centre. They've just replaced the local dodgy co op with a lovely Waitrose which is a 10 min walk from our house. It's also close to several nurseries and two good primary schools.
