Moving out of catchment after application

We have a child settled in primary school, and a sibling who has no chance of getting in to the same school if we leave our current address.

We are desperate to move house as we have massively outgrown our small flat which DH and I have been in since we were just a couple, but the area we want to move to is in the neighbouring catchment.

Does anyone know whether if we manage to stay here until just after the time that we apply for our younger child's school place, would it then be ok to move out - soon after the application has been submitted but before the start of term?

I would wait until the place is given in March/April, as you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if a place wasn't given and you and moved. It would probably be fine moving after November, but it is not a risk I would take.

I'd stay where you are until as late as possible. Places can still be offered as late as August to children out of catchment.

I've known quite a few parents move after the term has started so that their child has their place.
