Hi ladies
I live in Fife between Ninewells and the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. I can't decide where to have my baby!

Any advice you can give me re Ninewells or the Vic would be really helpful thanks!

Hi Poppy,

I've no advice, as my babies were born elsewhere, but I will bump this thread so that others see it.

I had an emergency section at ninewells, I had pre-eclampsia and some bits of my care were fantastic and some were awful. Friends who have had more straight forward deliveries rave about the midwife led unit, and the midwife in charge is an amazing woman. No experience of Kirkcaldy though.

I was taken to Ninewells by ambulance after being in Arbroath Maternity for 24 hours and failing to dilate, so sent up to have my waters broken.
Couldn't fault the delivery midwife at all, she was great. I found the experience on the ward afterwards very impersonal and lonely. They didn't help me with anything, very impatient and pretty nasty really. I transferred back to Arbroath as soon as I could.
That was over 8 years ago though, and things could have changed. I know they've introduced a more midwife-led unit since then.

No experience of Kirkcaldy though, sorry.

My son was born in Ninewells in 2007 and we were both looked after really well. I end up having forceps but all staff was good and reassuring. Regards

Hiya, I had hoped to have my baby at Arbroath but after a fabulous pregnancy and 24 hours of labour I was sent in an ambulance to Ninewells. I was 42 weeks and had a really high temperature so Ninewells told Arbroath to send me across straight away. My treatment there was brilliant. I was put on monitors and things and they were about to induce me (still only 3cms) when the consultant came in and said the baby was not happy and needed out straight away. I was whisked in to theatre immediately and had an emergency section.

Afterwards I was advised that my placenta was beginning to fail, my waters had broken from above and my insides had gone septic. God only knows what would have happened if they hadn't got him out when they did. Afterwards I was in a bit of a mess and wasn't allowed back to Arbroath for a few days as was on IVs etc. I found the midwives to be absolutely brilliant, not like I had feared from stories I had previously heard. They even took Callum away to their pod for a couple of hours at night to let me try to sleep because he cried constantly. I only later found out he was starving as I had no milk coming out, but that is a different story... All in all I could not fault Ninewells - if anything goes wrong you are in very safe hands! Also the tea and toast is top notch.
