My family and I are moving to the area soon but currently live in Scotland so cannot easily suss out what the communities are like. 
Essentially we are looking for an interesting place for our kids who are 6 and 8. They both like cubs and brownies and would like to be able to easily visit some friends. It would be great if there were many options of things to do locally but so far my research suggests this is quite limited. Do you have any information or advice that could help us find somewhere to live?
Ideally, I would like a large garden to plant veg but an allotment nearby would also suit. I am coming to the conclusion that we are going to have to make some sacrifices but would welcome your thoughts.
Any advice on local schools would be good too. Many thanks
