Are you a Townie or a Tscheuchter?

Lentil linked to this this thread on the Chat thread.

I am firmly a townie. We lived in a village for almost 4 years in Geneva. I enjoyed the walks in the vineyards and the peace, and it was interesting to see more of the countryside, and the way the land was farmed. That countryside experiment was enough for me, and when we moved to Dundee, I knew I wanted back in the town.

We like to go for walks and I like the variety of routes that being in a town gives us - I love going for walks in built up areas and nosying at the houses. I like to be able to nip into town if I need something, or go to a nearby supermarket (we have two large supermarkets within couple of minutes drive).

Being in a town also gives us a wider range of cultural activities, and activities for the kids.

One of the reasons I love living in Dundee is that it gives me all that, but still isn't a huge impersonal city. I like that I can bump into friends in the town, or in a supermarket. It is a friendly place to live.

What about you lot? Townie or Tscheuchter?

i dont think i class myself as a townie but im definitely not a teuchter - dont have the accent for it :) you need a right country accent to be a real teuchter. we toyed with moving to the countryside but thought it would be better to live in a city.

i dont really like the town that much and only go into town maybe once a month - we like going for walks where the houses have interesting architecture and theres lots to look at and see but dont really like walking where the houses are more modern as there is nothing there which holds my interest.

i think the thing i like the most is being at the beach or at least by the water.

I am guessing that we would all be classed as tscheuchters, if we were to go to a proper big city.

Last year I was in London for a few days and did feel like I was wandering around with a OMG expression on my face the whole time.

I like the normal housing areas too, Peggy. We have been doing up the house recently, so am looking for inspiration on how we could do the garden now.

I like the best of both. I like being close to the town so we can access all the great things on offer for DS - the Science Centre, various classes, the pool, without having to spend ages just getting there, but I like to have some nice fresh air and a bit of space too, and more house for our money than we'd get living centrally. I think Dundee and surrounds is great, so close to the water and countryside, and lots to do in town too, and a decent array of shops.
I do absolutely still love London, I think there is something amazing and special about it, but visiting gives me a nice fix, and I don't need to live there any more.
