Harpenden or Wimbledon

We are considering moving to London with our 2 boys, 4 years and 17months. A friend told us that Harpenden is a great area with very good schools and a good commute to central London. If we need to choose between Harpenden and Wimbledon, which one is better?

Harpenden is a wonderful place to live.

Depends what you want. If you like countryside Harpenden is lovely. Its full of young families.

Wimbledon is London, Harpenden is a lovely commuter town. Wimbledon is much more 'big-town-like'. We prefer to be outside London with our children, but it's completely personal preference. Both would be good choices to the right people.

Depends whether you want to be in London or outside. Harpenden's great, I'm sure Wimbledon is too. Also depends where you work - given you are attracted by the commute, presumably you will be working in town? Harpenden's got a fast commute if you work somewhere easily reachable from First Capital Connect e.g. central London/City, it's not so good if you will spend even longer crossing London than you do getting in. (My commute is 37 minutes to Blackfriars, but then just as long again on the district line, which is very tiring.)
