James Gillespie High School - S1

Hi,
We have just found out that my daughter has a place at James Gillespie High School in the first year. We literally moved here 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if there was anyone on here who had a child that is going into the same year that I could contact and ask a few questions about the school? My daughter would like to know little things like the locker systems, how the classroom system works, and just a few things about the school?

I also notice that there is a youth club at the Warrender Swim Centre and was wondering if anyone had any experience of that or would even recommend it for getting to know kids from the area in the same age range?

Hi,

My daughter starts S1 at James Gillespie High School next week. As part of the process she attended a 3 day transition period from her primary school in June. It allowed them to "experience" the timetable structure and also meet children from the other feeder primary schools.
However, the school is being rebuilt over the next two years so I think there will be changes for all to adapt to whether they attended the transition period or not. There are lockers but nothing was allocated. I gather there are also quite a range of after school activities so I'm sure there will be opportunities to meet others.

Hope this helps. It can be quite daunting moving to a new school.

Many thanks for your reply. She got to know every little detail about the secondary school that she was supposed to go into so was getting a little anxious about not knowing anything here.

Are they supposed to turn up at 8.40 as the timetable says?

Yes, according to my daughter school starts at 8.40 on Wednesday. A pack lunch is a good idea as I gather the canteen can get really busy.
