West Byfleet

Hi,

We're moving to the area next month & so I'm after local recommendations (or local info on where to avoid!) - the usual things - doctors, dentists, hairdressers, toddler groups, and small parks (swings & stuff).

Be grateful for any pointers!

Were just up the road west byfleet in general is lovely there is loads of parks todlar groups. there is a doctors in west byfleet which seems pretty good - cant help with dentist as we see MIL loads of hairdressers to choose from depends on budget.

have you any kids / how old there is a few schools to choose from and nurserys as well.

there is a fantasic park in byfleet with a huge sandpit and pirate ship that the kids can climb all over and a little skate park area for older kids - there is also lots of brownie / scouts / martial art / gym clubs local.

if you want to know anything specific please ask I grew up in the area and still live locally my kids are 4 yr old twins and a 7yr old girl

Hello I am in West Byfleet too!
There is a big health centre in West Byfleet which has several practices operating from it. I go to Parishes Bridge and have always been pleased with them. I think all the practices are good though. We go to Coniston Dental Practice which is private as I have denplan with work. I am fine with them but my mum (who has had lots of dental work done) goes to a practice in Woking instead. There are loads of toddler groups - if you go to the Byfleet NCT facebook page there is a document with a big list of them (or PM me your email and I can send it to you).
I second the recommendation for the Stream Close play area in Byfleet (the one Stinky is talking about) - it is really lovely with nice planting as well as great play equipment. There is a car park. In West Byfleet there is a park next to the infant school which is fine.
Restaurants is something West Byfleet has in droves! Ponte Vecchio is a lovely Italian which I have been going to since it took over our old post office. Trevi is another good Italian. Sir and Madam is a small but great Thai place, they do good take away too. There is a lovely Chinese called Chu Chin Chow but very expensive. For Indian I always go to Haweli.

Stinky - I have also lived there all my life and have a four year old! I wonder if we have met IRL - my son is starting WBIS this September

Great to know that there are nice restaurants, will be checking those out once we find a good babysitter, but the takeaway recommendations will serve us well regardless.

I've never lived somewhere with so many GP surgeries in one building before, was finding it a bit odd.

Join up at Wisley Gardens. About 5 min drive and brilliant all year round....plus great cake!

Nice walks along the canal down towards Pyrford.

Rhyme time at the library used to be very sweet.

Wendy's soft play den good for teeny ones.

Wisley definitely on the to-do list, been a couple of times, it is lovely. Although I've never had any cake. A shocking oversight which will be corrected!

I also live in WB and am very happy there. We belong to the Wey Family Practice in the Health Centre and find the doctors very good. It's not usually a problem to get an appointment which is a total change from my last doctor where you had to be on your last legs and still be incredibly flexible with times to ever see a doctor.

For hair, Daniel Fairfax is a popular option. Catherine is a good stylist and the salon is very tasteful and friendly, but they don't allow children (blessed relief as far as I am concerned!) but might be a problem for you. Cloud Nine is a very good beauty salon, lots of very good therapists but pretty expensive. For cheaper options, there is a shop called Blush in the centre of the village, right next to Cloud Nine and Fairfax, which is a second-hand and vintage clothing store with some vintage homewares as well. Nicola, the lady, who runs it also does manicures very well and cheaply. They are £12 or if you book a course of £6, it costs £60. In the main car park by the library there is a boutique called Niomi and Kim, the owner, does a range of beauty treatments at reasonable prices. It's not very luxurious surroundings but does in between luxury, but expensive, doses of Cloud Nine.

For restaurants, on top of the what people have already recommended, I would add Kayal, which is a relatively new addition and specialises in Keralan cuisine. Confusingly, for such a small town, there is another Keralan restaurant called Kayaloram but Kayal is reckoned to be the best.
