Colney Heath - anaerobic digester

Hi

We have two boys (aged 3 & 9mths) and we've put an offer in on a house in Colney Heath which we've fallen in love with. However, we have found out that the council have given planning permission to build a anaerobic digester which will recycle food left overs, "The digestion plant will process up to 48,500 tonnes of organic waste a year from Herts and neighbouring areas including London" one mile away from the house on Coursers Farm.

The residents seemed to kick a fuss up when it was first mentioned in 2012. There are articles about it on the web www.hertsad.co.uk/news/county_snubs_residents_and_approves_colney_heath_waste_digester_bid_1_1422054 It was taken to the secretary of state to investigate, but he has also given the go-ahead. Since then it's gone pretty quite.

I have spoken to a few local residents and no one seems to know anything about it. They all seem to think it's not going ahead, or don't seem fussed.

I've read up about it and people have said that there might be a smell to local residents. So i called the council and they assured me there won't be as it's going to be a modern facility where they use new technology to keep the smell of the waste contained. I know there's a similar site in South Mimms and people have complained about the pong, but it's a different kind of waste and it's an older facility.

So in short...we dont know what to do... Should we let it stop us from moving into a house we love? in an area we love? Are we being stupid? Is it going to stink? Or will it be fine?

What would you all do?

HELP!!!!
