Both commuting from Winchester

Has anyone done this? We are considering a move out of London to Winchester and DH thinks this will be conditional on me giving up my job, which I can't do outside of London. I go in two/three days a week and he goes in for four.

Feels stupid to be giving up a good job in this climate and when DS1 is nearly school age but we are supposed to be moving to make our lives easier with family close etc. I also worry that if I'm working three days I will never meet anyone local to make friends and we really want to be part of a community.

Argh! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi There, I spotted your post and hope you don't mind me dropping you a note. I started a website last year called lifeafterlondon.com. The same idea as mumsnet as it's peer advice but all about moving to new areas and helping people who are trying to get a feel for a place and find stuff out! And also those who are thinking about a move and needing some reassurance or advice. Would love to help you if we can and just thought I'd mention the site incase you don't get the answers you need here. Hope you don't mind me messaging you and do let me know if we can help or pop by the site and ask a question if you like. Thanks so much Bee

Kingsmead day nursery opens at 7.30 and closes at 6pm so that might work in terms of childcare and commuting. It is a fantastic nursery and my children are very happy there.
I would say you would definitely make friends and feel part of the community only working 3 days, there is so much going on!
