Getting fit/ losing weight

NicLovesCheese · 01/07/2013 22:36

Hi ladies,
I'm moving to St Ives soon and REALLY need to lose weight, I'm heavier than when I was pregnant, which is soooo depressing!
Just wondering if anyone rates any local slimming clubs or exercise classes?
I'm a wine and cheese (and cake) lover, so this is going to be a mission! If anyone wants to join me trying something new just say the word too! :)

I've found the local Slimming World groups good (went to one in Warboys and then one in St Ives).

I've recently taken up running if that's of any interest? Cos I'd love a running buddy! I am unfit and slow Grin but it's cheap, and easy to fit in around work and parenting. And I like being outdoors.

NicLovesCheese · 02/07/2013 17:53

Sounds cool! Something I've always fancied but I'd worry about holding you back!

Hardly - I am a physical exercise dodger of long standing. An asthmatic three legged sloth is faster than me.

Becketts · 04/07/2013 10:40

Ooh, have you taken up running too? That's fab. I did C25K a few months back and it was brilliant. There's a Parkrun every Saturday at Hinchingbrooke park.

Crocvillagemum · 04/07/2013 21:27

Yes, I've thought about the Hinch parkrun for when I improve a bit. I can just about run 5k but I need at least a couple of breathers and even if I don't count the time they take, I am soooo slow. I have visions of the organisers packing up and going home before I get to the finish!

Becketts · 05/07/2013 09:15

Ha, no, they have a tail runner bringing up the rear. My first time was 34 mins something and there were loads of people behind me. I've marshalled a couple of times and some people walk the whole thing. And the cafe has cake.

There's a really evil hill right at the end of the course though, just when you think you've almost finished.

Crocvillagemum · 05/07/2013 16:51

34 minutes? Cuh, I aspire to 34 minutes! I'm nearer 50 Blush

Becketts · 05/07/2013 17:10

You can see all the results here to see if anyone's doing it in the same time as you. I'm going tomorrow for the first time in ages, hoping that my new hayfever drugs work and that I don't end up a gasping wreck.

Crocvillagemum · 05/07/2013 19:22

Ooh, I feel your pain re hayfever. This year has been awful. Though I'm currently in E Yorks and feeling much better - must be the northern air!

Crocvillagemum · 05/07/2013 19:29

Good luck for tomorrow.

I think I'll give it a bash soon, if only to gauge how quickly I can do it (and therefore improvements in the future). Looking at those times, I'll certainly be in contention for La Lanterne Rouge! But I can dream of the peloton....

Becketts · 05/07/2013 21:12

I was meant to be doing a 5 mile race on Sunday out in March . I'm not going. Enjoy E Yorks, are you by the sea?

Crocvillagemum · 05/07/2013 22:46

I wouldn't go either - March? Ooh, nooooo.... Grin

Not exactly by the sea in E Yorks, at least not right now; DH is doing a sponsored cycle ride from Morecambe to Bridlington, and MIL lives about 30 mins away near Market Weighton. So I and the spawn are staying with her until Sunday and Le Grand Arrive.

Went out for a run this evening - managed 4km in bang on 30 mins which is seriously impressive for my lardy arse. Blimey but I got sweaty though. And I couldn't have kept that pace up for longer, I don't think.

Becketts · 06/07/2013 10:38

That's pretty good, especially in this heat! I did Parkrun this morning, had to stop and walk a couple of times but I hope I did it in under 35 mins.

Crocvillagemum · 06/07/2013 17:00

It appears that you did indeed do it sub 34 mins. Well done!

Becketts · 06/07/2013 18:20

Thanks! I was not displeased. Well, only at the poor selection of ice lollies in the cafe. Turns out I'm not the only runner that's decided not to race in March tomorrow.

Crocvillagemum · 10/07/2013 07:25

Huh, I was going to have a bash at the Parkrun this Sat but I've picked up an evil summer flu bug. Today is the first day I haven't had to crawl (rather than walk) to the toilet. So it will have to wait a bit!

Becketts · 10/07/2013 07:55

I'm not doing it this weekend either, it's DH's turn. I should be doing it the week after though if you want to wheeze and stumble around together?

Crocvillagemum · 10/07/2013 07:57

That sounds a good plan.

Becketts · 10/07/2013 07:58

Hope you feel better soon!

NicLovesCheese · 19/08/2013 08:51

I'm here in st ives! And have signed up to start Pilates at Thorndown on 2nd sept, eek! I'm sooo not bendy...

OP posts:
NicLovesCheese · 19/08/2013 08:58

I'm going to start walking so that one day I might be up to running with you... Haha....

Hello! Welcome to da hood, innit. I'm Pilatesing on Weds at Time For Health. Hopefully it will improve the disaster zone that is my lower back!

NicLovesCheese · 20/08/2013 14:24

Just had a look at Time for health website, it sounds almost luxurious! Baby lounge is a lovely idea too

OP posts:
Crocvillagemum · 20/08/2013 16:28

I've no idea how it'll be at Time For Health but they're lovely over the phone Grin. I don't think you have to be bendy to do Pilates? My problem is that I bend OK (very well, in fact) but have very little core strength - hence 'orrible back problems and a monstered pelvic floor.

Hope your moving in is going OK!

NicLovesCheese · 20/08/2013 18:08

See, that's how much I know about exercise!
