Reduction in subject numbers at S4 from 8 to 6

Parents in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are currently protesting against the cut in examinable subject numbers at age 16. Pupils can now only choose 4 subjects plus maths and English. We feel this is too limiting and have set up a petition to show our strength of feeling to the Scottish government. If you feel the same, please sign at:

Thanks for starting this thread. Will post a link on FB.

Do you have a link to any blogs or news articles that you could link to, for background reading.

How do people find out what their LE is planning?

Spanner21 · 11/07/2013 03:48

Hi, apologies for the delay - I'm on hols just now. All the background info on this is on the SQA and Education Scotland websites but, to be honest, those will tell you that the system is set up for schools to decide the best 'journey' for pupils. What, in reality, has happened is what is outlined in the petition statement.

Some LEAs are publishing the number of subjects on their websites but I found it very difficult to find all but a few when I tried to trawl through them. A call to the education dept should uncover the info though.
