Primary school nightmares se23

I'm after some advice about school distances this year 2013.... We want to move to the area and are happy with a number of primary schools - but want to have an indication of school distances this year so we don't cut our selves short when dd starts in 2014. So, lewisham council won't say anything until 2014 booklet is published in September.... stillness just don't say anything, fairlawn said 400, then 350 and then last time I phoned they said 150(aaaagh - really? I suspect this is scare mongering!) eliot bank are about the same???? If there are any anecdotes /indication that would be fab. I'm getting a bit anxious that we will be in catchment for nowhere and will have to drive miles.

Thanks for your help Confused

Have a look at this thread on ED Forum. It's got some of the distances in it as people have been sent them with their school admission letters. From memory, Fairlawn was just over 350 metres.

Horniman is having a bulge next year so its catchment will be a bit wider than the current 250 metres this year.

Thanks very much MymbleandlittleMy - some good anecdotal stuff. But I guess that I will have to wait until September to see what really happened this year. At least September not too far away. We've just taken on a place so will just have to see.

Can anyone tell me about the pre-schools in the area? is it best to go private or go to one of the many offered by the schools?

Hi, we have been at stillness pre-school and its fab!! Catchment about 400 metres .. Be very wary of fair lawn as catchment is tiny, if you phone schools directly they will normally tell you.
