Potential move to Gloucestershire

Hi,

We are potentially moving to Gloucestershire in Oct for DH's work. He would be based in Gloucester for a year and then likely to be Bristol for the following year. Ideally I would prefer to move just the once so have been looking at places in between the two, M5 corridor area but don't know Gloucestershire at all! No kids, 3 cats and would be looking to rent (if we can find a cat loving landlord)

Any areas that you would/would not recommend? (Have also posted in chat)

Thank you!

I think it depends what sort of place you'd like to live in. The stretch between Gloucester and Bristol is mainly small towns such as Thornbury, Wotton UnderEdge, Nailsworth and Stroud or villages. We live in North Bristol fairly close to the M4/M5 interchange and my husband works in Gloucester. It takes him about 40 mins to get to work barring any problems on the motorway. If the job is going to move anyway I'd suggest looking at outskirts of Bristol if you prefer the amenities of a city. Otherwise the places mentioned above are all very nice market towns, small high streets of shops, leisure centres, a few restaurants, pubs etc. Thornbury and Wotton have easier access to Bristol if the job moves.

The journey into Bristol can be a pain - I would look at where the job would end up and base your choice on that. A year driving out of Bristol would be easier than driving into Bristol for the long term.
