New Free School in Hastings / St Leonards

FreeSchoolHastings · 28/05/2013 12:00

Free School Hastings is a venture being undertaken by a group of committed local education professionals and members of the community in and around Hastings and St Leonards. The aim of the School is to provide a good quality, well rounded education for the children and young people in our area.

We believe there is a real need and desire for a new approach, one which connects our children to the rich environment that surrounds us, and gives them a firm grounding in a range of academic and life skills.

Free School Hastings will be a school where every child?s potential is nurtured, developed and fulfilled.

We intend to submit our application to the Department for Education in 2014, with a view to opening in September 2015.

Free School Hastings will follow a core of principles developed to enhance your child?s education, promoting a unique, outdoor-based curriculum and creative learning environment underpinned by innovative and outstanding teaching.

If this sounds like a school you would like to send your children to, or you are interested in getting involved as a Trustee, please visit our website www.freeschoolhastings.co.uk for more information and to submit your interest.

You can also visit our Facebook page www.facebook.com/freeschoolhastings to keep up to date with news and events.

Sounds interesting. We've just moved here and our daughter is just 2/12. She used to go to a Steiner parent/child group and we really miss that philosophy. I'd be interested in what kind of schooling you envisage.

Hi There

I know this is an old thread but I've just come across it whilst researching Hastings/ St Leonards as a place to move to.

I went to a school called Kilquhanity which was founded by John and Morag Aitkenhead after they studied and worked with A.S.Neill of Summerhill. It was the best start in life I could have possibly been given and one I will be eternally grateful for.

My daughter is only 1 but I am already really concerned that she will be subjected to sitting exams before her 5th birthday and will learn because she has to rather than because she wants to. I would therefore be really interested to know more about your school and its intended philosophies. I would also be really interested in discussing how I might join you in some capacity or other if we move to the area.

Good luck with your new venture

Does anyone know if there are still plans to go ahead with this?
