Just Moved to Edinburgh From France

Hello! We've just moved to Edinburgh from rural France where we've spent the last 4 years in splendid isolation. We're originally from London and have a little girl who will be 3 this August. This move was very last minute (partner's work) and so I am a little lost as to where to start with regard finding a decent nursery for our little one. We move into a rental property in Carlton Terrace next week - can anyone recommend a decent nursery walking distance from there where she could attend a few mornings or afternoons a week so as to get a bit of a social life? We're flexible as to hours as I'm not working - it's just so she can "hang out" with some other little people and have some fun. I think we get 12 hours free/government funded once she turns 3 - is that correct? Any help/pointers/"steer clear of"s very gratefully received!

Welcome to Edinburgh!

There are a couple of nurseries on the Royal Mile/Cowgate which are generally very highly regarded although I believe they tend to have waiting lists.

Yes you will get 12 hours free nursery from 3. Usually term after birthday so you should be ok for August start. You can use this in some of the private nurseries if you cant get a school nursery near you. Can't help with recommendation as wrong end of town for me!

Try the play group on Thursdays at st Paul and st George's church on the corner of broughton street and York place. It's only 5 mins walk from your street. Play group runs 2 sessions, one AM and one PM and is a really friendly group. We've been going for nearly 3 years and love it! There is a bright horizons nursery in Annandale st, also very close to your street which might be worth checking out?

Brilliant, thanks for the answers and recommendations. Only just been able to log on again so apologies for the late response! We'll definitely try the St Paul and St George's church on Thursday!
