HELP please.
we have a 5 year old son who is really smart but he is so disobedient, he is well behaved in school, never gets into trouble at school but once he is home he is a nightmare. when we ask him to do something he wont do it, we ask him to stop doing things, he carries on, eg walking through car park after school, asked him to hold my hand to cross, he looked at me and ran off into the car park! we have tried most things with him, reward charts etc but they work for a couple of days then back to normal. we started another chart on Wednesday just focusing on doing as he is asked, everytime he gets a sticker he gets a pasta shape put in a pot, when the pot is full he can have a treat. we got 4 stickers in an afternoon!
I have given up shouting at him, I try to talk calmly to him and tell him how disappointed I am. I ask him why he doesn't listen to me, he just says cos I don't. he says he doesn't know how to be good at home.! if i ask him why he has done something he just says um because because because. i get down to his level and ask him what ive just said to him,he says "um um i don't know."
any suggestions?

Hi beckybt

I don't have any quick fixes - I think that you're right to not shout and talk calmly. I have recently read 'How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk' and am seeing results with my 5yo. I find that when she is tired though she just won't listen, its very frustrating.

I would post on the main site with this one, you'll get more advise.

Hope it gets better soon.

Post it in parenting. You will get more answers. Kids know how to manipulate us.
