Proposal for new betting shop in Balham

Anyone else heard that they want to turn the old dry cleaners on Balham High Road (close to As Nature Intended) into a betting shop? Any ideas how to register concerns with the council?

(Do Wandsworth council historically listen to residents on this kind of thing? Years ago, I lived in NW London and they proposed a McDonalds in our town, the whole town complained and it never happened! So I have hopes for 'people power' (or maybe 'mumsnet power' but maybe I am being naiive?). Thank you! x

I imaginr they are looking to catch the crowd hanging around outside Wetherspoons

If they are also taking on the retail space which was the shop next door it will be huge.

Tweeting is a good idea, I can do that too (though I don't have that many followers!).... plus will email all my local mum friends. But still I feel that we are a bit 'small fry'.... hmm if I pull my finger out these weekend I may call the council to see if there is an official way of petitioning or something.

Plans have also been submitted to rebuild WHSmith adding a storey to it
They want to put a gym above it and above what should become TK Maxx

Rumours suggest the bowling green behind the BBC has been sold and plans are afoot to build on it

Any other notable new shops coming up? What about the corner unit on Bedford Hill across from the Sainsburys car park... the one that hasn't been used for ages, with the dark green front and grills across all its windows?

I think that shop is being used for storage/ residential use.

Not sure who has bought Tacuba on Bedford Hill but it was being sold as a going concern

It looks as though TKMaxx is going to open on 18th July.
