Moving to Oxford / Surrounding area .. need advice ASAP

Hi - we have sold our flat in London and are thinking of moving to Oxford/shire. We don't know the area very well and would welcome any advice from people who live there. We have a 2 year old son so we need good nursery/ primary school and possibly secondary. We need to be able to commute into London. Ideally I would like to be somewhere where there is a buzz (we are moving from Brixton in south London!) and other families with young children. We would like to buy a house so we have a garden. Any thoughts/ ideas very gratefully received.

Have a look at Goring on Thames or maybe Cholsey. They both have good links to London. They each have Nursery's and good Primary Schools with School buses going to either Wallingford or Woodcote Secondary Schools. They may look quietist places but there is lots going on with easy access to either Reading or Oxford city centres hth

Wallingford and Cholsey are both super friendly and family orientated, well worth a look around. primary schools tend to be pretty good in Oxon generally, but you can easily check Ofsted reports these days.

As a test you could always plan a few trips to different towns and try and get to a toddler group in each town, then pump the local mums for information (and to test their friendliness!).

What about Henley, there are loads of things to do including lots of festivals (the regatta, Henley Youth Festival, The literary Festival, Rewind etc etc). There is also a decent local cinema, a theatre and a swimming pool.

There are also loads of art shows and great local village fetes.

London, Oxford and Reading are easy to get to if you need an extra buzz

Henley is a super town. You definitely need to come up for a weekend and have a look around. Good pointer Kew

True, but then you get to feel like you're on holiday too every time you step outside... And you'll never be short of family and friends who want to come and visit
