Anyone in Totnes?

Hi, i should be moving to the area within a couple of months and wondered if anyone else is in Totnes? Have a few questions re schools, local facilities etc and would really appreciate it if anybody could help pleeeeeease. Many thanks!

Hi. I live a few towns away but my daughter, with 2 little'uns, lived in Totnes so I know it quite well. It's a lovely medieval town, small enough to get to know really well and with a reputation locally for being slightly "quirky". Certainly "ethical" is important to the residents as is a strong sense of community. My daughter's children went to Dartington Primary (a couple of miles away) and loved it there. Borough Park has great playing fields and kiddies' playpark, skateboard park etc and a lovely swimming pool. From the station there's a lovely short walk going over the Green Bridge over the River Dart to the South Devon Steam Railway. A few steps further to the Rare Breeds Farm which really lovely for littlies and has a gorgeous cafe with gnomes and fairies - unfortunately not real ones! . Kids (and parents) love China Blue - a place where you can paint your own pottery/buy gifts/get your hair done/eat gorgeous cake/buy wine. There's a big Morrison's in the town centre but please don't also forget the lovely independent town food shops. There are some REALLY great shops in Totnes and great eateries too. Excellent train and bus services to all over and there's the gorgeous River Dart Boat leaving from Steamer Quay just off the town centre which will take you on a fab trip down the Dart. I think my only criticism of Totnes in the lack of parking, but that's just how it is in a lot of small towns.

Hello newtodev! You'll love Totnes, I have meetings there once a month, it's gorgeous.
