Saturday music classes in Edinburgh

Hi, has anyone any experience of the Saturday music classes available in Edinburgh for young kids? I've been looking at Portobello Music School, Edinburgh Young Musicians at St Thomas Aquinas and the Music School at St Mary's. I'd like to give my kids the opportunity to learn an instrument and wondered if anyone had tried any of the classes, particularly the pre-school or the P1/P2 classes that seem to lead into learning a particular instrument. Are they a good idea and did they encourage your kids to take up music or put them off?

A few friends have used the Childrens Music Centre at Angle Park. They've raved about it.

Can't say much about how the lessons progress, but my boys go to the pre-school class at Portobello and enjoy it. The class is quite small, they all get a chance to have individual turns, get encouraged to speak up and sing. The atmosphere of the older children coming and going with their instruments is lovely too. I'm hoping it will be an encouragement, but as I say, too early to tell.

As a musician I would recommend Portobello group!! Have worked at one of the others and found it a bit too rigid in approach for young ones. My introduction to music was fun, free and totally engaging and certainly held me in good stead for future music making!

The portobello group offers a really good immersion in music and good fun from a young age and as rattling said about seeing older ones with instruments is a really natural way into it.
