Moving to N. Finchley -- paediatrician recs?

Hi all,

This is the first time I've posted on this forum, as I'll be moving to N. Finchley next month and I'm trying to find out more info on a variety of topics. It's great that there are local boards, as these posts have been very helpful.

My husband and I will come with our 2-year-old daughter. Can anyone recommend a good paediatrician (preferably not too antibiotic-crazy) in the N. Finchley area? I know a little bit about how the whole process of signing up for an Insurance number works, but I wasn't exactly sure how one finds and selects a primary physician for a child.

Thanks for any help!

Hi there, NogainFinchley, welcome to the area. Are you coming from outside the UK? I get the impression you might be. Usually you register with a local NHS General Practitioner who looks after the basics for the whole family, and refers you to a local hospital for any specialist care, including paediatric care. You have to be in the geographic catchment area for your GP, but you'll usually have a choice of several, and it's worht gettign a recommendation. You can also find private medical care independently but on the whole people go to a GP as a first point of call. Try this link to find one www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4 and then you could come back here for recommendations on the ones available to you. See what people have to say here, and if I can answer any more questions I will, not that I'm an expert. Good luck - Mumsnet Local Editor for Barnet.

Thank you so much! Yes, we are coming from outside the UK and I wasn't sure how the process worked for finding a GP and a paed. I saw several that are available in our catchment area (N12) the closest one is Torrington Park Group Practice. I wonder if anyone's had any experience there? The reviews look mixed (though reviews for most of the places seem mixed!!)

Thank you again for your help! This is really useful information.

Glad to help. Try starting a new thread with the names of a couple you're considering, you should get more specific responses.
