Good things to do with toddlers in Haslemere please?

Hello, I'm just moving to Haslemere with my DH and a 17 month old and feeling a bit nervous now the move is finally imminent. Can anyone tell me some good days out / things to do with a toddler in the area? And any other tips if you live around there!

Herons leisure centre do a bouncy castle session on tuesday and friday mornings as well as soft play and swimming lessons. The library has a big bear nursery rhyme thing on Wednesday morning but last time I went it was dire. Active tots on a Monday at the sure start centre. Practically every church hall has a toddler group, I could go on and on...depending on which bit you are moving to you are bound to have something on your doorstep.
Further afield there is a lovely park at Alice holt forest, can paddle in frensham ponds in the summer. West wittering is a fab beach, best to go off peak as gets very busy on the road in otherwise.
There is a nice farmshop cafe with a play area called Applegarth farm in grayshott, and secretts garden centre has a cool park, cafe and has free activities for kids in the holidays. Haslemere garden centre is worth a visit as it is practically a zoo with loads of fish and reptiles to look at. Birdworld (farnham) has a farm area in addition to all the birds. Cowdray park has a ruined castle and there is beautiful and safe walking for little ones at the devils punch bowl or petworth park.
If you are thinking of using any of the local preschools get your name down as some get booked up quickly. Hemmingways in town is nice for a coffee but the service is terrible. The museum is a good bet on a wet day.
I hope some of that is helpful, feel free to ask any questions! I have been here a few years and feel very settled and happy here so hopefully you will soon feel the same.
There are so many groups! I got a list from the local HV team when I moved here or try and get hold of the local NCT directory.

Ahh that's really reassuring, thanks. I'd come across a couple of posts on random forums of people saying they'd found it hard to make friends in Haslemere so I'm glad to hear from someone who has found it easy to settle in!

Funny you mention preschools, I've just found out I've got next to no chance of getting my DS into the one nearest me which is a shame. I'm just hoping that it won't hinder his chances of going to the school it's attached to.

I am going to do all the things you've mentioned, thanks so much!

Are you on the waiting list for the preschool? You never know you might get lucky and as far as I know the schools are allocated by the county council criteria so for most this means they get a place as long as they live close enough to their chosen school.
Do you have any connections, or friends of friends? Make the most of these if so and just really put yourself out there. I'm sure you'll be fine. You can always PM me if you feel your diary is a bit empty! I have a daughter same age as your DC.

Ha I may stalk you now! But thank you very much, you're extremely kind. I'm not on the waiting list yet as we don't actually move for two weeks but I'll be getting on it as soon as I'm allowed just in case. Fingers crossed!

Hi, I agree with HaslemereLass, there are lots of things to do in Haslemere with children. My nephew is 3 and has a great time particularly throwing bread for the ducks at Shottermill Ponds and walking into Haslemere for a trip to the local toyshop!

The pre-schools are fantastic and there is a thriving community of mums and dads - hope you enjoy the move.

Hope it isn't cheeky to go off topic but if either of you could recommend a good dentist and doctor for us (we're going to be on the border of Camelsdale and Hammer) I'd be really grateful. Grin

Hi Gypsy12, have you moved to Haslemere yet? I'm also moving at the beginning of March with my 19 month old and feeling a bit nervous about making new friends and the like! Would be interested to hear how you are settling in.

Hi Gypsy12, I've just posted a message on the friends bench as I moved to Haslemere 4 months ago and even though I've met a couple of lovely mums, I'd love to meet some more! My DS is nearly 19 mo. It's actually good to hear you love it here, it's taking me a little bit longer for the love to grow, but I'm getting there!

Ooh what a nice surprise to log in and get all these messages. Thank you! thank you! I feel very positive about the move... although not knowing a soul down there is always a bit scary. Coffee would be nice, please keep me in the loop ; ) Although won't be moving there till 10th March...

Ah, just found this thread after posting on the bench one! I also moved to Haslemere last year and would love to meet up for coffee with other mums. My son is 2.8 years and in nursery 3 mornings a week, and my daughter is 8 weeks old. Suffering from lack of sleep so the more coffee the better!

So glad to see there's lots to do with LOs in Haslemere. We are moving from Twickenham to the Petworth Road at the end of May and I've just started researching things to do with my DS who is 18months. Would love to meet local mums up for tea and play dates once we've moved in!

Hi, I have just found this thread after doing a google search on things to do with toddlers in haslemere. We are moving to the area later in the summer (aug/sept hopefully) with my 2 year old daughter and my bump which is arriving in July. I am keen to also meet local mums in the area once we are there. slighhtlypotty, we are moving from Hampton hill so similar move to you!

I am moving to Hammer / Haslemere in 2 weeks with my little girl 7 months old. I do not know anyone and am very nervous as I've only ever lived in one place and I'm leaving everything I know! Eekkkkk anyone with LO around a similar age up for coffee cake and a natter.

Hi, I just stumbled across this thread. We have lived in Haslemere for 3 years and have a 4 MO DD. i love Haslemere and am really happy here. I have met lots of lovely mummies at the local baby/toddler groups we've started going to. St Christopher's Church 10am Monday and St Stephen's Church 1pm on Tuesday. There is a very popular group at 3 Counties church in Hammer on Thursday mornings. Don't think they are on next week because of half term. There are loads of groups happening, something every day of you go to the surrounding villages. There is a Haslemere NCT group on FB (you don't have to be a NCT member) that posts lots of links to what is going on. The HV team who run the weigh clinics are great at passing on details of groups. All the local coffee shops are very baby friendly we've found. We'd be happy to meet up for coffee if you want to PM me. Hope the move goes well. :-)

Hello, just seen this thread as just moved to the area in April. I seem to be struggling to meet local mums in my area. I have two boys who are 3 and 1 and would love some play buddies. We are in the Camelsdale area.
