Hello Exeter... Mumsnet has arrived!

Hello everybody. I am your Local Editor for Exeter.

I've been a Mumsnetter on and off for several years (Pom bears and nice ham all round) and I'm really excited about building this site into a useful local resource for all of us.

Here's a little introduction to what it's all about...

Listings
Anyone can add a listing using the pink "Add a listing" button at top right. Have a browse through the categories and think about anything you'd like to broadcast to other Mumsnetters. I've enjoyed adding listings so far, and have found out all sorts about Exeter that I didn't know before.

Local Chat
When I signed up for this, one of my first thoughts was "surely people will find me on the main talkboards and read about my raging mastitis/sausage roll habit/criminal record?!*" This won't happen... because Mumsnet has cleverly asked local chatters to assign themselves a local chat name that is different to their regular board chat name. If on the other hand you are happy to be known far and wide, you can use the same name and add a tweak to it (e.g. CiderPunkExeter).

*just to be clear, I don't have any of these things.

Local Meet Ups
I've recruited a few helpers to start organising these in the new year - but if anyone out there is keen to get involved, let me know. These wondrous people will henceforth be called "Mumsnet Ambassadors" and have a special card declaring them as such.

That's all for now... enjoy yourselves!

Yes, flooding definitely. Perhaps some cows? They'd be useful in a flooded penthouse. We could sit on their backs and keep our feet dry.

The mystery lump of meat was pretty yum. Turns out it was a Lump of Chump. Slow cooked with wine, garlic and stuff it fell off the bone and was very nice. We had fried sprouts and mash with it. I am finding it hard to move, and want to turn into my dad, slumbering in front of a film on a Sunday afternoon, but there aren't any films on so I have to MN instead. And it's really cold here too so dozing is out.

CiderPunk · 02/12/2012 16:24

Welcome MissFloParker pop round to the penthouse any time!

I think we should organise a meet-up soon. I also think Why should cook for us Grin

Seriously though, does anyone fancy a December meet-up? A very informal elevenses somewhere reasonably child-friendly in Exeter perhaps?

Hello all, I'm following on fb and twitter so I'm saying hi here too. I'm in mid Devon.

Wooderswummie · 02/12/2012 21:48

Oy oy!! I be in Woodbury (betwixt and between Exeter and Exmouth). Oright byes and goils?
Ok enough of stupid dialect speak. Loving an Exeter board- been keeping an eye out for ages. Looking forward to some jollity!!

Wooderswummie · 02/12/2012 21:49

YY to elevensies too...

CiderPunk · 02/12/2012 21:58

Welcome Roadstone and Wooderswummie

I went to an Exeter meet about 3.5 yrs ago and met the legendary NeverGooglrDragonButter

WhycantIhavemyusualname · 03/12/2012 00:49

Don't! I had to bleach my brain! I have at last disciplined myself to not google things from mn, nor to click on links...

Cider, if I cooked you'd all have to come to my penthouse, which is currently full of cows.

HerbiesNo1fan · 03/12/2012 01:27

hello? hello? Has everyone moved to another thread?

Wooderswummie · 03/12/2012 09:40

I'm here! Not sure other fred is up yet...

Wooderswummie · 03/12/2012 09:45

Just checked and it's up on the local board- entitled 'pre-Christmas meet up'

CiderPunk · 03/12/2012 09:46

Hello Herbies - is that a reference to the cafe, or the anthropomorphic VW?

There that's my big word for the day.

Good morning everyone else. I have started another thread on this board about a possible meet-up (and am wandering about in there listening to the tumbleweed)

Why what about your little pad in Woodbury Salterton? I'm sure we could ask the squatters to confine themselves to one wing, or something

missflo I think I went to the same meet up, was that the one at the phoenix? :-) definately remember the lovely dragon butter

CiderPunk · 05/12/2012 21:54

If there's anyone about who has organised meet-ups before please do say, I really don't want to tread on any toes... I did email a good number of people from the old board asking whether they would like to carry the torch!

I nearly made it to one once many moons ago, but my baby had a poo in the bathwater at the last minute and so I wasn't feeling particularly "Mumsnetty" that day.

Would be lovely to get meet-ups off the ground again now that my children aren't infused with poo. (There now, you can't get a better invitation than that!)

Hi, I would really like to start a book club, I was in one when I lived in London and really miss it!! Nothing too heavy but a good reason to read a book and maybe to read something you wouldn't normally choose. I moved to Exeter at the beginning of July and I tried to join an existing group but no-one came along on the agreed evening so I was on my own!! Rather than feel unpopular I decided to start my own, don't want to get a reputation for sitting in pubs drinking alone....... Anybody fancy it, we could meet up with an idea for a book and decide, a pub is always a good place to start.

philippa86 · 11/12/2012 10:29

Newbie alert! newbie alert!

Hi everyone, I've just moved to Exeter (well in September but it's amazing how long you can play the "just moved in" card and until the boxes are unpacked, i'm sticking with it!) and would love to come to a meet up to get to know people. Also, I can read (pats herself on head) so would love to come along to a book club too! Hope to meet you all soon!

CiderPunk · 11/12/2012 19:50

Hello AllanK that's a great idea. I'll start a new thread about it to drum up some interest... would you be meeting in Exeter do you think?

Welcome philippa86 and good luck with unpacking the boxes (been in my "new" place for just over a year and I still have loads to do!) I fear the pre-Christmas meet-up isn't going ahead, which I am putting down to the weather and being too close to Christmas, but I'll have another go early in the new year...

Helloooo fellow Exeter and 'not quite Exeter' mums! Looking forward to getting to know you all... thanks Ciderpunk!

CiderPunk · 17/12/2012 18:21

Hello wombat. I think we both must have finished our tea at the same time and popped in for a quick post!

Are you all following Mumsnet Exeter on Facebook, folks? There's a lovely competition on there to win a handcrafted bag from Good Golly Miss Molly in McCoy's Arcade... Closes on Friday!
