Hi
Just wondered if any one does this commute daily and can advise what time I should set out to be near cambridge station by c8.45.
Thanks!

I'd use the busway if you're going at that time, that stretch of A14 is hellish during rush hour. There are park and ride places in St Ives and Longstanton. Timetables are here.

Thanks. I have heard it is rotten. Unfortunately I need my car with me for work and have a car full so have to drive. How hellish will it be!?

When I worked in Cambridge, people coming in from the A14 set off v v early, getting into office by 8am, or started work after the rush hour. 8.45am is about the worst time to arrive, so don't know how much flexibilty you have on your start time.

I don't actually think it's that bad, compared to say M25 or M1 commuting, it just that there'll be a major snarl up, usually involving a lorry, about once a week.

Thanks all. Sadly I don't have any flexibility on start time - if I leave at 7.45 am I likely to get there for 8.45? Thanks

Hard to say, some days it's fine but if there's a lorry accident then it can take forever. I've been stuck for a couple of hours on at least 2 occasions. Probably the best thing to do is check the traffic right before you leave so that you can take an alternate route. A lot of people go via Papworth on the A1198 and the A428 although that road can get really busy too.

will you have parking at your work - as that is a bit of nightmare as well -

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 29/08/2012 22:08

in order to get to work for 9am I had to be off huntingdon road by 8.10
if I hadn't got to huntingdon road (girton interchange) by then I would be late for work

The A14 is only part of the problem. Driving into Cambridge from the A14 is at least as bad imo, as NeverKnowlingly indicates. To be at the station by a certain time not in rush hour I'd allow 20 minutes from the A14 junction anyway. To do it in rush hour it will be much more.
