Hi, we are moving to Cambridge shortly and our new garden is very over grown with trees - mainly massive conifers. Does anybody have any recommendations of firms to contact to get them taken down? Thanks

We used Acacia Tree Surgery a couple of times.

Tates Treework were good for us.

Try Nick Burch Tree Surgeon - does a lot of work with conifers, quote was a fair bit more reasonable than others we got and he is a thoroughly nice bloke (no connection - but have experience of a few tree surgeons in Cambridge).

Thank you - knew I could get suggestions from mumsnet.

Acacia quoted about £200 more than the people we used to take down a very tall acacia in our very small garden.

We used Atlas tree surgery and they were really fab (and took the stump out which acacia said they couldn't do). Lawson tree surgery is meant to be good too. Atlas (guy's name is andy fenwick) mobile no is 07956 410416.

We just had great service from GWB Horticultural. From quote to work carried out under two weeks and we had them off referral. Not one leaf left on floor after they cleared up either! Call Gareth 07866 752713, he quotes on the spot! Have got them booked for more work in January when other trees right for pruning..he knows his stuff!

We used www.easterntreesurgery.com/ in early september to take down 2 huge Leylandii. There were far cheaper than anybody else - at least £200 cheaper than Acacia - and did a fantastic job.

Highly recommended.
