Hallo, thanks for reading this. We are moving to the Totterdown/Knowle/Windmill Hill area in September or October this year and I'm looking for recommendations for a nursery. My son is two years old, and we plan to stay for at least two years.

Thanks very much for any help.

Best wishes
Sarah

I meant to add, that as we may stay on the area recommendations for solid primary schools would also be greatly appreciated.

Windmill City Farm Nursery is hands-down the best in the area but the waiting list is long - Less long for 2 year olds than for 1 year olds so you may be OK. Other nurseries in the area that I've heard good things about include the Southville Centre, Magic Roundabout on Corontion Road and Court House where totterdown turns into knowle.

If you go for the more totterdown/knowle end, Hillcrest school is generally considered the best in the area but because of that you have to live pretty close to get in. If you aren't going to be very close to Hillcrest then be cautious in the Knowle direction as other schools in that direction may be disappointing. Further in to totterdown/windmill hill you'll be in the cachment areas for Victoria Park school, which is OK, and st Mary Redcliffe which is a bit of a mixxture, having previously been good, then so bad it was put in special measures, and now is considered (by ofsted anyway) to be OK again.

There is a good nursery at the Southville Centre :)

There is also Busy Bee day nursery on the Wells Road near Court house that I have heard good things about.
Hillcrest school is very oversubscribed and the catchment area has shrunk in recent years. Although they have an outstanding OFSTED report this was in 2007 so is quite old and the Head to whom this report referred has since retired. Other local schools with a good reputation are Knowle Park (good) and West Town Lane primary which both have a larger intake of 90 pupils in a year group. HTH
